Hughes N'Cho-Allépot Home Réga
stool
Sometimes design happens to unsuspecting people. Hughes
N'Cho-Allépot is one such person. The grandson of an Attie
tribal chief, he was born in Ivory Coast and grew up in Paris,
where he studied to become a lawyer. N'Cho-Allépot abandoned
that plan after a bout of "soul-searching," he says, and
landed in Brooklyn with just $400. That was six years ago.
Today he has his own furniture company for which he designs
luxurious, streamlined hospitality pieces. Pony skin, for
example, tops the 24-inch-square Réga stool. The Lagos chair
offers a generous 35-inch width. The pulls on the
Asian-inspired Bilal buffet are brushed stainless steel. The
oversize arms of the Milos love seat (and three-seater, bench,
and lounge chair) eliminate the need for end tables. And the
Mica ottoman is a compact 27 square inches. Among the options:
11 woods and 10 stains; 50 choices of linen, velvet, silk
velvet, and silk, as well as leather and pony skin; and a
large selection of cleanable fabrics that exceed 100,000
Wyzenbeek rubs. All pieces pass CAL 117 flammability testing.
